Core Values
Comprehensive psychiatric assessment and management
Dr Tenea’s focus is on adult mental health care, although she has also had broad experience in the care of adolescent clients. She manages various conditions, including depressive and bipolar disorders, anxiety disorders, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, trauma and stressor-related disorders and mental health difficulties arising from medical conditions (such as epilepsy and stroke). She also has a special interest in burnout and its link to depression and has conducted research in this field.
Conservative and evidence-based treatment
Dr Tenea advocates for conservative, evidence-based treatment and does not promote overprescribing of medication. The therapeutic alliance is the cornerstone of every intervention. Her ethos is holistic, comprehensive care for patients, with medication being but one aspect of care.
Holistic wellness and maternal care
Dr Tenea believes that mental health is inextricably linked to physical well-being and affects one’s overall wellness. The writing of one’s emotional and mental blueprint starts in the family unit. She therefore has a special passion for maternal care, as positive intervention in this domain has long-reaching effects.
Psychotherapeutic referral
Please note that Dr Tenea does not offer psychotherapy. Should a client require psychotherapeutic intervention alongside the pharmacological intervention provided the client will be referred to a suitable colleague.
The process
Initiate assessment

Comprehensive initial assessment
Dr Tenea initially assesses patients for 1 ½ to 2 hours and thereafter formulates an initial working diagnosis.
Discussion for optimal management
She then engages the patient in a discussion regarding further management in order to achieve optimal wellbeing, independence and balance.
Tailored follow-up sessions
Follow-up sessions are then scheduled in order to assess response to intervention and make changes as needed; the initial period of treatment is critical and requires more frequent follow-up, which can then decrease as the client’s condition stabilises.
